Bushy on a cold day

Bushy on a cold day

Bushy is a bay Thoroughbred gelding who is stabled at my friends’ property in the valley. I have been getting to know him on my visits to the estate when I venture there to teach riding lessons or to ride Beetle.

If my memory serves me right, Bushy was once a racehorse, but was pulled out of racing as his legs were not suited to the sport. He was then bought by Beetle’s previous owner and trained in eventing. Now he stabled at Beetle’s current owners’ property where he spends his time wandering around the paddocks with Dreamtime, Beetle and his new friend Rollercoaster.

Bushy is a very striking young horse, as you can probably see from the picture above. He is rather tall (nearly 17 hands, I am guessing) with a very gentle but noble head. Though he can be a tad pushy at times, he has a very sweet temperament. He has wonderful gaits, very ‘floaty’ and purposeful. He also gives kisses. You walk up to him and say, “Bushy, kiss, kiss!” and he’ll give you a soft nudge with his muzzle. Still, I think Dreamtime’s kisses are better. Beetle doesn’t give kisses, but you can catch one from Rollercoaster if you can get him to stand still for long enough.

I have not ridden Bushy (yet), but I would like to one day.

Bushy

He is cute, but I don’t know why they nicknamed him ‘Bushy’. Apparently he’s got some fancy name that no one can pronounce so he’s just Bushy 😛
